The other star of tonight’s show was […] Mike + the Mechanics. Mike is of course Mike Rutherford, guitarist, leader and a founding member of the band Genesis. Mike + the Mechanics is quite a strange case, because apart from those who are really music-savvy, not everybody knows the band too well. But everybody knows their songs upon hearing them, many of which made it to the hit lists of the 80s. Silent Running, Another Cup of Coffee, All I Need Is a Miracle, The Living Years and Over My Shoulder are all well recognizable. And we had a chance to hear all of them in the Charlotta Valley. Rutherford was both the guitarist and the bassist in Genesis (the famous double-necked guitar!) and he was also engaged in the arrangement of most of their songs. He is a very detail-oriented musician, and so we enjoyed a very rich-sounding show, and the six members of the band were spontaneous and lively, making the audience go wild as well.

Responsible for the success of the first Mike + The Mechanics albums were the vocalists Paul Carrack and Paul Young (who has since passed away). Their duty is now carried on by Tim Howar (who is also a theatrical and musical actor ) and Andrew Roachford, who has an amazing, strong voice, and who also plays the keyboards. Of course, the absolute leader is Mike Rutherford, who knows very well what the audience wants in order to have a great time. That’s why the set list of Mike + The Mechanics has also been filled in with Genesis songs from their pop era like I Can’t Dance and Land of Confusion,  the flagship productions of the music and music video revolution of the 80s. In excellent spirits, the audience (filling well over half of the 10 thousand seats in the theatre) stayed until the end of Monday’s show, that is until midnight.
